Parkham Farms has best cheddar at National Cheese Awards 2012 Jun 2012

Thirteen awards were won by Parkham Farms at this year’s National Cheese Awards. It’s our biggest haul of prizes ever at this prestigious event, which was held at the Bath and West Show on 30 May.

We took the cheddar classes by storm, securing nine medals and four special trophies including the J Sainsbury’s Trophy for Excellence in Cheesemaking.

Director Peter Willes accepted the awards and said the success was great news for the whole business after a difficult 18 months.

“We sadly lost my father in March last year, who was involved in the cheese business for many years, then our cheesemaker, who had helped develop our cheddar’s distinctive taste and texture,” said Peter.

“Despite this, we decided to go ahead with ambitious expansion plans to increase production – at about the same time the cheese market became extremely volatile.

“Winning these awards today shows that we were right to press on; this is a pat on the back for everyone in the business, from the other members of my family to our cheesemakers Edgars Bankovs and Stefan Wynne, our farmer suppliers, and all the staff – and of course the cows themselves!”
